Vitamin B12, or cobalamin, is a large molecule built around a cobalt ion in a corrin ring. It is a cofactor for methionine synthase and methylmalonyl-CoA mutase.
It has been studied in in-vitro studies of one-carbon metabolism, DNA synthesis, and fatty acid breakdown. It has also been investigated in rodent models of B12 deficiency and nerve function.
