Bacteriostatic water is sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol added. The benzyl alcohol slows the growth of bacteria in the vial after it is opened.
It is used as a laboratory diluent for lyophilized research compounds. It is not an active compound and has no research activity of its own.
